I am in hopes that all our students enjoy the time they spend at Pyron Elementary School. I look forward to seeing the growth they make while they are here.
I would like to introduce myself as the counselor at Pyron Elementary School. My name is Amanda Brewer. I have served as the school counselor since Aug. 2009. I have a diverse background in elementary education. I have taught in Arkansas as well as in Ohio. I have taught Pre-K, third grade, fourth grade, fifth grade, and in special education. I have found that no matter what grade I taught- my heart was bigger than the classroom. I wanted to help heal the hearts of my students. It was this need to help, heal, and love that lead me to the counseling role.
As a school counselor I wear many hats. I teach classroom guidance lessons, provide individual counseling, facilitate group support, and consult with parents and teachers. I help students in all areas of their development: academic, social/emotional, and career exploration.
Please know I am here to help.

Guidance lessons are taught on a three week rotation and are cover a variety of topics. Many lessons are focused on social skills such as learning to recognize and respect the feelings, needs and uniqueness of others. We also focus on career awareness and goal setting.
We must remember that intelligence is not enough. Intelligence plus character- that is the goal of true education. --Martin Luther King, Jr., 1948
At Pyron Elementary we do more than just teach students reading and math. We also teach and model good character. Students are also rewarded for showing good character skills. Each month students who demonstrate good character are chosen to celebrate with the Principal's during our Cub Lunches.
We focus on a new character word each month. These words are emphasized in guidance lessons with the counselor as well as on our daily Cub Cam.
